On August 14 the Poles got a hold of a fully functioning German armoured vehicle. The insurgents acquired it as a result of the drivers mistake who was taking orders over to the troops defending the Warsaw University on Krakowskie Przedmieście and accidentally turned onto a street occupied by Polish soldiers. The vehicle was first named “Jaś” and then „Szary Wilk” (“Grey Wolf”) in honour of a fallen commander, Platoon Commander Cadet, Adam Dewitz "Gray Wolf". When the vehicle was driven through the streets with an attached Polish flag fluttering above it, it aroused great enthusiasm. People cheered from their windowsills. This joyous moment in the Rising was documented by Sylwester Braun “Kris”.
